Ziyad Guled grew up with a passion for sports, playing soccer, volleyball, track and basketball in high school. As a teenager Ziyad moved to Qatar and played professionally for over 16 years - as a youth for Al-Sadd and then a shooting guard for Al-Jaish Club teams. He won a number of Qatar League championships with Al-Jaish and played in international tournaments from Brazil to the Philippines. A few injuries led him to think about giving back to the next generation of players and he began attending coaching clinics, such as the Turkish Basketball Federation International Coaching Clinic, Qatar Olympic Academy, and FIBA Coaching Clinic. Ziyad then started coaching youth league basketball in Qatar with Fame Academy. After moving to Canada to be with his family, he got involved with coaching and started his own youth program. Ziyad is excited to be working with the fantastic coaching staff at SFU and looks forward to an amazing year with Canada’s NCAA team.
