Guard Eric Beckett of Ajax, Ont., transferred to SFU after three seasons at the University of Vermont, a perennially strong program out of the America East Conference. He's the second former Catamount to transfer to SFU in 2022, joining teammate as George Lefebvre. Beckett has two years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound guard, Beckett played in 26 games over three seasons at Vermont, scoring 59 points. The Catamounts made the NCAA Tournament this year, and also advanced to the America East tournament championship game in 2020 before the season was cancelled because of COVID. Beckett recorded a career-best 13 points in a January 26 road win at Stony Brook (N.Y.), making five of seven shots – including three triples – from the field.  Beckett graduated from the Tilton School in Tilton, New Hampshire, where he was a 1,000-point scorer and an honour roll student. In 2018 as a junior, he helped Tilton win the Class AA New England Preparatory School Athletic Council championship. The team made the National Prep Championship Final Four that season. Playing for Team Ontario, Beckett was the Most Valuable Player at the Canada Basketball Under-15 Boys National Championship tournament. Then in 2017, Beckett was instrumental in Ontario's U-17 gold medal victory at the Canada Summer Games.
