Biography

Matthys Van Bylandt signed with SFU from Handsworth Secondary School, and the 3D Basketball Academy club program, both of North Vancouver. Van Bylandt was a multi-sport athlete in high school but an elite-level basketball player. In his Grade 10 season, he was a starter on Handsworth's senior varsity squad. Van Bylandt helped the Royals earn a fourth-place finish at the 2020 provincial championship tournament, averaging 12 points and 6.5 rebounds a game. Handsworth was also named the event's Most Inspirational Team. Van Bylandt is a good athlete with an ability to play above the rim and defend full court. He is versatile and can plan several positions on the floor. He can be rugged and play the physical game or get up and down with his skill and finesse. Van Bylandt will be studying at the Beedie School of Business.
