SFU soccer alum Josh Smith joined Simon Fraser University as an assistant coach with the men’s soccer program in August 2019. Josh has his CSA National A Coaching License as well as his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
Smith played four years for Simon Fraser University in the late 1980s/early 1990s where he made two NAIA National Championship appearances and received All-Conference Team selections. He had professional trials within North America, with the Edmonton Drillers (MISL) and Dallas Burn (MLS). He has also played locally in the VMSL with Croatia SC and Clan Alumni, winning an Imperial Cup with the former.
Smith has coached elite youth soccer in the BCSPL from 2013-2018, has been both an assistant and head coach with the BC Soccer Provincial Team Program since 2011, and has recently been coaching Langley United U21 Men’s team in the VMSL.
Smith is a native of Seattle, Washington, who grew up and played his youth soccer in the Lower Mainland.
