Box Score Lacey, WA – The Simon Fraser University men's soccer team bounced back with a dominating win on Thursday afternoon defeating Saint Martin's 4-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
"I was very pleased with our team's performance today," said head coach
Alan Koch. "The guys showed up to play and took care of business.
Nico Espinosa and
Shane Satar were excellent in their first starts for SFU."
Once again the Clan opened the game strong as
Jovan Blagojevic would score his first of the night only eight minutes into the game.
Only eight minutes later it was
Ryan Dhillon who would add to the Clan's campaign as he muscled his way into the SMU 18-yard box and put a shot past goalkeeper JJ Olson.
The Clan's fast acting offence would strike again, this time three minutes later as Blagojevic would take a run down the sideline and move through the Saint's territory uncontested to net his second of the evening to make the score 3-0.
On the other side of the field,
Brandon Watson was forced to step up for SFU as the Saint's counter strike resulted in a header attempt, but the goalkeeper was able to keep the Clan's record unmarked for the remainder of the half.
Returning for the second 45-minutes, the Clan emerged as the dominant side again, adding nine shots to their 12 from the first half.
One of those shots came just four minutes into the half, as
Nico Espinosa scored his first goal with SFU off a Blagojevic assist.
The 4-0 score would stand the remainder of the Clan, but the Clan would continue to press regardless, allowing the Saint's only two shots on goal, both of which were saved by Watson.
With the win the Clan improve to 3-2-2 on the season and 1-1-2 in the GNAC.
"This match gives us something to build on and we look forward to heading to Seattle to play SPU on Saturday," finished Koch.
The Clan's match against Seattle Pacific will kick-off at 7:30 on Saturday October 4, where they will look to deal the Falcons their first loss of the season.
