Oklahoma City, OK – The story book start to the season came to an end for the Simon Fraser University women's wrestling team Saturday at the Cliff Keen Duals in Oklahoma City. SFU, which won 43 of its 48 matches at the tournament on Friday, lost two duals on Saturday to finish fourth.  

Simon Fraser lost in the third place match, 25-20, to Campbellsville University. It was the second time in less than three hours that the two teams faced each other. The Clan won six of the 10 matches to defeat Campbellsville 24-19 to begin the championship side of the tournament Saturday.

After the win over Campbellsville, Simon Fraser met and lost to eventual champion King University Navy in the championship semifinal, 33-10. King University Navy defeated OCU Black 27-20 to capture the tournament title.

SFU defeated McKendree Black 29-15 in the consolation semifinal. That win set the stage for the return match with Campbellsville.

"The girls were all wrestling their 10th matches in three days. We simply ran out of gas in the last match," said Clan head coach Justin Abdou. "We couldn't get up for it. Campbellsville was motivated to avenge the earlier loss and they wrestled really well."

"In our losses we gave up too many bonus points and that was a big difference."

Simon Fraser and Campbellsville each won five matches in the consolation final.

SFU's Abby Lloyd (Powell River) was pinned by Michelle Lomas at 109-pounds and that match could have been the difference for SFU. Earlier in the day, Lloyd earned a 10-0 technical fall over Lomas.

"Abby was well on her way to another win but let her guard down and got caught," said Abdou.

Senior Bailley Halvorson (Thunder Bay, ON) won all four of her matches Saturday at 155-pounds, including one by a pin, and is 10-0 to start the season.

"Halvorson was solid all weekend long and really wrestled the way we expect our seniors to wrestle," said Abdou. "She set the tone for the rest of the girls by staying poised and in control, especially in the close matches.

"After wrestling so many matches this early in the season we now have a good gauge of where we are as a team and what we have to do to get better."

At the Dino Open in Calgary on Saturday, freshman Alyssa Wong (Sacramento, CA) won the 67-kilogram weight class. 

Simon Fraser will host a dual meet on Oct. 31 against the University of Winnipeg, Pacific University and Warner Pacific University. The Clan International is scheduled for November 1.
