Simon Fraser University Wrestlers Earn Prestigious Academic and Athletic Honours

3/13/2025 3:17:00 PM

The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) recently honoured outstanding student-athletes with the 2025 NCAA Women's Scholar All-American Awards, recognizing excellence both on the mat and in the classroom. These prestigious awards highlight the commitment and achievement of athletes who meet strict academic and athletic criteria.

This year, Simon Fraser University (SFU) had an impressive showing with five wrestlers making the list: Laura Alcantar Soto, Ella Finding, Amelia Lucas, Maddie Mackenzie, and Lene-Marie McCrackin. These student-athletes have demonstrated exceptional skills and dedication, balancing the demands of college-level wrestling with academic excellence.

To qualify for the NWCA Women's Scholar All-American Awards, athletes must either place in the top eight at the NCAA Nationals while maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA (with GPA conversions from Simon Fraser University's 4.30 scale to a 4.00 scale), compete in at least 15 matches recorded in TRACKWRESTLING and maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA, or qualify for nationals with a GPA of at least 3.25.

In addition to the NWCA recognition, SFU wrestlers also earned accolades in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

The RMAC Academic Honor Roll acknowledges student-athletes who maintain a GPA of 3.30 or higher, complete two consecutive semesters at their current institution, and participate in a season of competition.

Six SFU women wrestlers were named to the RMAC Honor Roll: Lene-Marie McCrackin, Laura Alcantar Soto, Amanda Silveri, Ella Finding, Megan Zelasky, and Maddie Mackenzie.

Lene-Marie McCrackin further distinguished herself by being named to the First Team Academic All-RMAC. To earn this honor, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and meet the other eligibility requirements. McCrackin, who posted an impressive 3.53 GPA, was one of the top performers in both academics and athletics within the RMAC.
