Burnaby, BC – The Simon Fraser University men's basketball team earned their second consecutive victory Saturday night, defeating Northwest Indian College 135-103 in game-two of the weekend's double header.
The Clan's scoring was spread through the team again, as seven athletes hit double-digits, led by
Sango Niang (Paris, France) earned his first double-double of the season with 26 points and 11 assists on the night, while also recording a team-high seven rebounds.
Adam Westfall (Gresham, OR) added 18 points, two assists and two blocks to SFU's campaign, while freshman
JJ Pankratz (Abbotsford, BC) had 15 points and six rebounds in the second game of his collegiate career.
"It was nice to play so many guys again tonight and nice to see players in new players in game situations to see how they would react under pressure," said head coach
James Blake. "JJ and Denver [Sparks-Guest] were excellent off the bench tonight."
In what was a very similar display to Friday night's game, the Clan took an early lead over the Eagles in the first half, but were stalled 16-13 at the 14-minute mark.
A pair of Westfall three-balls and two Pankratz layups followed shortly after, as the Clan took a ten-point run and never looked back.
The first period ended 77-44, the Clan on pace to repeat another 100-point game.
In period two Simon Fraser continued to produce, but were outscored 59-58 by the Eagles, who also reached the 100-point margin, their first such feat this season.
"I thought that in the first half we competed and played hard, but it's hard playing back-to-back and playing with such a large point difference," Blake continued. "We did not play as hard in the second which is disappointing, but we will regroup Monday and prepare for the upcoming games, as the competition is only going to get better and better."
The Clan bench scored 73 of the 103 points on the night as Simon Fraser earned 37 points off turnovers and 40 fast-break points, capitalizing on the depth and speed of the team.
Simon Fraser is back in action at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 18, when they host the Douglas College Royals.
Tickets are free for SFU students.
