BURNABY, B.C.  – Eight players scored in double figures and Simon Fraser University scored 115 or more points for the fourth time this season, as the Clan rolled over Douglas College 147-57 Tuesday night in a pre-season men's basketball game in the West Gym.
Simon Fraser led from start to finish, scoring early and often. The Clan led 76-31 at the half and reached the 100-point mark less than five minutes into the second half. The Clan launched 123 field goals, including 61 three-pointers, and made half of them. The team also scored 63-points off turnovers.
Simon Fraser has scored 147-, 135- and 160-points in three straight wins and scored 115-points in a season-opening loss to NCAA Division 1 Idaho Vandals. The Clan scored 92 points in the only game it has failed to reach the 100-point mark.
Against Douglas College, senior guard
Sango Niang (Paris, France) had a double-double, scoring 20-points off 8-of-15 shooting while adding 11 assists and five steals in 21 minutes. His backcourt mate,
Justin Cole (Los Angeles, CA) notched 21 points off 8-of-15 shooting, including five-of-11 from beyond the arc, while adding three assists and four steal in 17 minutes.
Forward
Patrick Simon (Port Coquitlam, BC) was 8-of-8 from the field and scored 17 points—all in the first half.
SFU swingman
Michael Harper (Melbourne, Australia) scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Roderick Taylor-Evans (Uplands, CA) scored 18 points.
Thirteen players saw action in the game for the Clan.
Forward Reng Deng scored 16-points off the bench for Douglas College. He was the only player on the squad to reach double figures.
Simon Fraser is on the road for four straight games before returning home for Red Night and its Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, Dec. 6 against Western Washington University Vikings. Simon Fraser University will honour the memory of Canadian hero Terry Fox by raising a banner displaying his name and No. 4 that he wore as a student-athlete on the Clan junior varsity basketball team to the West Gym rafters on Red Night
The banner-raising ceremony will take place prior to tip-off of the men's game beginning at 7:30 PM. During the ceremony Terry's original jersey will be presented to the Fox Family, represented by Terry's brother, Fred Fox. The original No. 4 jersey will be displayed in the Terry Fox Collection at the renamed Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Que, which will open in April 2015, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope.
The women's team also plays Western Washington on Dec. 6 beginning at 5:15 PM.
