PREVIEW - Clan look to knock off first seed MSUB

3/7/2014 12:45:00 PM

Lacey, WA - After defeating the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Wednesday to advance to the semi-finals of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship, the Simon Fraser University women's basketball now turn their attention to the first seeded MSUB Yellowjackets as the Clan try to advance to their second straight GNAC Championship game.

The Clan got a complete team effort against the Falcons to advance to the semi-finals as five players reached double digits in points.

Marie-Line Petit (Bergeronnes, QC) stepped up with 22 points in the second half for a career night, leading her team to victory while Erin Chambers (Mission, BC) had 16, going 12 for 13 from the free throw line, Katie Lowen had 11 while Chelsea Reist (Mission, BC) and Meg Wilson (London, ON) each scored 10.

Simon Fraser will need a similar team effort to defeat the Yellowjackets tonight and reach the championship game.

The game will be a showdown of two of the conference's best as the Clan's Chambers and MSUB's Bobbi Knudsen were both unanimous GNAC all-stars.

As she did in 18 other games this season, Chambers led the Clan in both meetings against MSUB with 17 and 25 points respectively, both Clan losses.

It was the same story for MSUB as their first team GNAC all-star Knudsen led her team in both games with 15 and 21 respectively and the Clan defence will look to shut her down tonight.

Rebecca Langmead (Torbay, NL) led her team in rebounds in the Clan's first meeting with MSUB with seven while Reist had nine the second time around.

A slow start cost the Clan the first time these two teams met as the Clan trailed 10 at halftime and shot 35 percent from the field and in the two sides second meeting, the Clan shot 35 percent on the night.

SFU will also look to have a better game on the boards as they were outrebounded 49-29 in Montana and 45-34 when the team met at SFU.

The Clan's second leading scorer against MSUB in both games was Reist, who had 12 both times out and the Clan will look for secondary scoring against the Yellowjackets tonight.

Game time of tonight's semi-final is 7:30 p.m. The game is available online, with video and live stats at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/sfu.portal.
