OKLAHOMA CITY – The Simon Fraser University women's wrestling team advanced to the championship bracket of the Cliff Keen Duals in Oklahoma City Friday, winning five dual meets to capture the top seed in one of four pools in the 24-team tournament.

Simon Fraser began the day winning with a 37-10 win over Wayland Blue and never slowed down. The Clan lost just nine matches in five duals. SFU also defeated Missouri Valley College 42-5, Ottawa University 39-6, University of Cumberlands Red 39-5 and McKendree Black 28-16.

Three Clan wrestlers went undefeated.

Darby Huckle won all six of her matches today at 101-pounds while Mallory Velte was 5-0 at at 143-pounds and Abby Lloyd was 4-0 at 109-pounds. Jennifer Anderson, Payten Smith, Kendall Reusing and Dominque Parrish lost just one match each and are 4-1. Smith moved down a weight class to wrestle at 170-pounds enabling Reusing to compete at 191-pounds.

"We were focused and got some good results today," said Clan head coach Mike Jones. "We move into brackets tomorrow and are guaranteed a top eight finish."

Simon Fraser is ranked fifth in the Women's College Wrestling Association preseason rankings released last week and will face teams or split squads from the top five ranked teams, including No. 1 ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) to capture the tournament title.

The Clan placed five wrestlers in the top five of their respected weight classes in the preseason rankings. Darby Huckle (101-pounds), Abby Lloyd (109), Jennifer Anderson (123) and Payten Smith (191) are all ranked second while Francesca Giorgio is fourth at 130-pounds.

The tournament wraps up Saturday.
