BURNABY, BC – Simon Fraser University scored three second half goals to defeat the University of Mary Marauders 3-0 on Saturday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's soccer game played on Terry Fox Field.

Goals from Calvin Opperman, Brendan Shaw, and Anthony van DeVendel carried the Clan to victory. The win brought their record to 7-3-4 overall.

SFU dominated the flow of play throughout the contest, recording 70% of the game's shots. As a result, Simon Fraser held their opposition scoreless for the eighth time this season.

Brendan Shaw opened up the scoring for the Clan in the 50th minute of the game. Defender Shane Satar brought the ball down the ride side of the pitch, and then crossed it across the net to Adam Jones. Jones touched the ball back to Brendan Shaw, who hammered it home.

The second goal of the night was scored by Anthony van DeVendel in the 79th minute. Calvin Opperman worked the ball through traffic and found van DeVendel open for an opportunity. He capitalized with a strong shot to the back of the Marauder's net.

Both Shaw and van DeVendel recorded their first goals of the season tonight.

"I'm pleased with the result tonight," said SFU head coach Clint Schneider. "We created lots of chances; I wish we could have popped one in earlier."

"I think our strongest team attributes shown today were grit and maturity. "

The Clan closed out the scoring on Calvin Opperman's goal in the 87th minute off an Adam Jones' throw-in. Opperman took a beautiful strike from 15 yards out that found its way behind the Marauder's keeper.

The Clan now owns a three game winning streak after preceding wins over Saint Martin's and Montana State Billings.
