BURNABY, BC – On a cold and foggy Saturday evening, Simon Fraser University played their last regular season game of the year, defeating Western Washington Vikings 2-0 on Terry Fox Field.
The Clan finished the regular season with a record of 10-3-4 overall.
Simon Fraser fought through the adverse weather conditions, which included fog so heavy that it nearly forced a postponement of the game. The game was delayed for 80 minutes, allowing the fog to partially dissipate.
Kyle Jones opened up the scoring for the Clan in the 21
st minute. Teammates
Adam Jones and
Mamadi Camara worked the ball across the pitch from the right to left, setting Kyle up for a shot on goal from 25 yards out. He converted on this opportunity, blowing the ball past the Vikings' keeper.
Michael North had a strong game for the Clan, recording numerous close scoring chances throughout the match. He scored the second goal of the game for the Clan in the 59
th minute. After a great passing play by
Callum Whittaker and
James Fraser pulled the Vikings' keeper out of position, North was left with a tap-in goal. This goal sealed the game for the Clan, allowing them to rely on their strong defensive structure to carry them to victory.
"It was a positive performance on Senior's night," said SFU coach
Clint Schneider, "We finished the season undefeated in home games, and without conceding a goal at home, which were two goals of ours."

Shane Satar,
Callum Whittaker, and
Alex Rowley, three seniors who played their last regular season game for the Clan tonight.
"There are so many things I could say about this special group of guys, who all played hard for each other," said Schneider. "It is a very special group."
Simon Fraser fired 25 shots towards the Vikings' goalkeeper, Tyler Visten, 11 of which were on net.
Brandon Watson, SFU's keeper, played a key role in securing the victory for the Clan. Watson faced 8 shots directed towards the Clan goal and made four saves. Tonight's clean sheet helped him finish the season with a record of 10-3-4.
SFU took 8 corner kicks while the Wolves had 2.
Simon Fraser finished the regular season ranked second place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with an in conference record of 9-2-3. Their opponent tonight, Western Washington, finished seventh in the conference.
