SFU takes down unbeaten and No. 20 ranked Western Washington

BURNABY — Devin O'Hea scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season off a corner kick in the 72nd minute to hand No. 20 ranked Western Washington its first loss of the season, 2-1, in a men's soccer game played at SFU Stadium Thursday evening.

Mark Talisuna scored the Red Leafs other goal on a penalty kick 88 seconds into a game that began at 7:30 p.m. and finished at 10:47 p.m.

The game was stopped for more than an hour after WWU player Kyota Hiate was injured in a collision with O'Hea 88 seconds from full-time. Hiate lay on the field in obvious pain while being attended to by trainers and medical personnel. Eventually an ambulance was called and the game resumed for the final 90 seconds after a 75-minute delay.

The injury Hiate sustained is unknown.

On the game-winning goal, Niko Papakyriakopoulos, coming off GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honours, curled a corner near post into the box and O'Hea went high into the air to re-direct the ball into the goal. O'Hea ranks third in the GNAC with four goals.

SFU is now 41-19-8 all-time vs. the Vikings.
