BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Simon Fraser lost in straight sets to the No. 9 nationally-ranked Western Washington University volleyball team on Saturday in Carver Gym, where the Vikings have now won 28 consecutive matches dating back to the 2019 season.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-21 and 25-20.
The loss dropped the Red Leafs to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in GNAC play. The Vikings are 8-3, 3-0 in the GNAC.
The Vikings are a formidable opponent on home court. Western Washington has not lost to SFU at home in the last 23 home matches dating back to the 1990 season.
WWU is off to a 7-0 start to the season in home matches on WECU Court in Carver Gym.
Saturday, the Vikings dominated. They had a better attack percentage, .239 to .150, registered more kills, 42 to 34 and had 12 blocks to SFU's 4.
Brooke Dexter led SFU with 10 kills in 23 attempts (.348), the only SFU player to reach double figures.
Eva Person registered 15 assists and
Serena Gentile had 13 digs.
SFU never led in the first or second sets. In Set Two, SFU trailed 19-18 and 22-21 but the Vikings closed out the set with the final three points. The Red Leafs led 10-8 in the third set but WWU went on a 10-2 run to pull away and win in three straight.
SFU is on the road next week but returns to home action on Sept. 29 at the West Gym.
