Ellensburg, Wash. – The SFU Red Leafs overcame a 19-point deficit but lost at the buzzer, 77-75, to Central Washington in Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball action Thursday at Nicholson Pavilion.
Matt Poquette scored on a put-back with two seconds left after Camron McNeil missed on a driving layup on the Wildcats final possession. McNeil drove the lane against
Jovan Rai and
Jahmal Wright slid into the paint to contest the shot. McNeil missed but Poquette was able to grab the offensive board and tip it in for the win.
SFU had trailed 48-31 at halftime and by 19 points, 52-33, a minute into the second half. The Red Leafs went on a 19-7 run to get to within seven points with 12 minutes remaining. The Wildcats held a modest lead the rest of the way until the final minute.
David Penney hit a three to make it a one possession game, 75-73, with just over a minute left. After a CWU miss and turnover,
Elliot Dimaculangan hit a pair of free throws to tie the game 75-75 with 22 seconds left. That set the stage for the Wildcat win.

Four Red Leafs scored in double figures, led by 21 points from Dimaculangan on 9-of-15 shooting and Wright with 18 points and on 8-of-10 shooting. Penney finished with 13 points and
Nigel Hylton scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
CWU never trailed after SFU scored the opening bucket.
Both teams shot well from the field. SFU connected on 31-of-52 (59.6%) field goals and went 9-of-20 (45.0%) on threes. CWU shot 58.9 percent from the field and 40 percent on threes.
SFU plays at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.
