David Penney scored 19-points but it wasn't enough as the SFU Red Leafs lost 65-60 to Northwest Nazarene in Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball action Saturday at the New PE Building.
SFU never led in the second half but tied the game at 55-55 with 4:35 remaining. The Nighthawks pushed the lead back out to two possessions before
Elliot Dimaculangan hit a deep three to make it, 63-60, with 28 seconds left. NNU hit a pair of free throws after an SFU timeout to push the lead back out to 65-60. On SFU's next possession
Jovan Rai missed a layup with 12 seconds left and the Nighthawks grabbed the rebound. SFU was forced to foul the rest of the way.
SFU led the game for the last time, 17-16, with just over eight minutes to go in the first half, but trailed 30-28 at the break.
Penney led the way for SFU with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. He also grabbed four rebounds and had three steals in 34 minutes. Penney scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half.

Jahmal Wright each scored 13 points. Wright played 37 minutes and went 5-of-5 from the field, 3-of-4 at the line and he grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
SFU held the Nighthawks to 38 percent shooting (23-of-60) but lost the battle on the boards 40 to 33 and had 19 turnovers.
SFU connected on 23-of-49 (46.9%) field goals and went 6-of-18 (33.0%) on threes.
The Red Leafs wrap up the season at Western Washington on Saturday, Feb. 25.
