The Simon Fraser University Red Leafs track and field program is thrilled to announce the signing of Maverik Rahkola, a standout middle-distance runner from Penticton, BC. A graduate of Penticton Secondary School, Maverik joins the Red Leafs family with an impressive resume and a passion for competing at the highest level.
Maverik has already made waves in his athletic career, achieving second place in the 1500m at the BC Club Provincials, third at both the BC High School and Club Provincial Cross Country Championships, and a remarkable 8th-place finish at Nationals. Known for his versatility, Maverik showcased his abilities as a middle-distance specialist while excelling in cross country last season. "Last cross country season was something I'm really proud of," said Rahkola. "I'm supposed to be a middle-distance guy, but I went out and put up some amazing results, finishing as the second runner for my team when we tied at Nationals. I can't wait to bring that same drive to the Red Leafs and see how far I can go."

Rahkola's goals at SFU are as ambitious as they are inspiring. He aims to improve his personal best and earn a spot on the national track or cross-country team. He chose SFU because of the unparalleled opportunity to train and compete alongside some of the best athletes in the country. "I chose the Red Leafs because I'm looking forward to competing at the highest level I can," Rahkola said. "It's an amazing opportunity to grow as an athlete and contribute to the team's success."
Head coach Brit Townsend is excited to welcome Rahkola to the Red Leafs program, praising his potential and determination. "Maverik is a fantastic addition to the Red Leafs track and field program," said Townsend. "He's a rough diamond with incredible potential, and I'm confident that with the support of our team, he'll continue to improve and achieve great things. I'm looking forward to seeing him develop and make a big impact as a Red Leaf."
The Simon Fraser Red Leafs are proud to welcome Maverik Rahkola to the team and can't wait to see him thrive in the upcoming seasons. Welcome to the Red Leafs family, Maverik!
