BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser Track & Field is excited to welcome Domfo Abekah, a jumps specialist from Issaquah, Washington, to the 2025 recruiting class. A graduate of Issaquah High School, Abekah will join the Red Leafs with a strong foundation in the triple jump, eager to develop her technique and reach new heights at the NCAA Division II level.
Abekah's proudest moment so far came at the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field in her sophomore year, where she overcame pressure and adversity to deliver a clutch final jump. "I scratched my first two attempts and my third wasn't my best, so to come back and improve my personal best by more than 50cm on my final jump was a really special moment," said Abekah. "It showed me how important confidence is in this sport."
At SFU, Domfo looks forward to refining her technique and building on her current abilities. "I want to improve beyond what I previously thought was possible, and I know SFU is the right place to do that," she said. "I'm really excited to be part of such a talented program."
She also emphasized SFU's unique blend of academics and athletics as part of her decision. "I chose SFU because it's a great school for my major, and it gives me the opportunity to receive a Canadian education while still competing in the NCAA."
SFU jumps coach Jerrold Jones shared his enthusiasm about the addition: "Domfo has raw talent and a competitive mindset. That ability to perform under pressure, especially in a technical event like the triple jump, is something we look for. I'm excited to work with her and help unlock her full potential."
With drive, composure, and a strong athletic foundation, Domfo Abekah is ready to make her mark as a Red Leaf.
Welcome to SFU, Domfo!
