PUEBLO, CO – May 23–25, 2025
Three Simon Fraser Red Leafs proudly represented the university at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo, Colorado, capping off the season with grit.
Cannan clocks big PB and earns All-American honors
In one of the most competitive sprint fields of the weekend, Emma Cannan delivered an outstanding performance in the women's 200m. On Friday, she ran a massive personal best of 23.17 seconds to finish third in her heat and advance to the final through the fastest non-automatic qualifier slot. Returning on Saturday for the final, Cannan backed up her breakout run with a 23.33 to place 7th overall, earning All-American honors.
Cannan's finish concludes a stellar season that included GNAC medals, national rankings, and major personal bests.
Monro battles wind, delivers in long jump final
Nicholas Monro entered the NCAA Championships ranked 16th in the men's long jump but rose to the occasion with a clutch performance. After fouling his first two attempts, Monro remained composed and delivered a strong third jump of 7.37m, good enough to place 13th overall. Dealing with swirling winds and tough board placement, Monro's jump earned him Second-Team All-American honors.
His showing marked a great end to a season in which he consistently performed among the top jumpers in the GNAC and the nation.
Chong finishes 9th in deep Javelin Field
Jarrett Chong, who entered the meet as one of the top-ranked javelin throwers in the country, threw 66.49m to place 9th overall, which still secured him a Second Team All-American nod.
Chong's 2025 season will be remembered for his GNAC Championship-winning throw of 72.60m, which broke the conference meet record and ranked him second nationally entering the NCAA meet.
A Strong Finish and a Look Ahead
With two All-Americans and all three athletes placing in the top 15, SFU once again demonstrated its ability to compete among the best in NCAA Division II. The Red Leafs will look to build on this momentum heading into next season, with returning seniors and a talented incoming class ready to raise the bar even higher.
