BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser Track & Field is excited to welcome Thomas Macdonnell, a developing javelin thrower from Courtenay, B.C., to the 2025 recruiting class. A graduate of G.P. Vanier Secondary, Macdonnell joins the Red Leaf with a growing resume and a commitment to continued progress at the collegiate level.

"I picked SFU because of the strong track and field program, the supportive coaching staff, and the chance to compete at a high level while earning my degree," shared Macdonnell.

At SFU, he plans to maximize the opportunities available to him. Aiming to stay on top of his studies while contributing to the team's performance at both the conference and national levels. "I aim to continually improve my technique and consistency, set new personal bests, and contribute to the team's success," he added.

Among his proudest athletic moments was a breakthrough competition in Duncan, where he achieved three personal bests in one meet, improving from 53m to 57m and then 59m. He also secured a bronze medal at the BC Summer Games, highlighting his upward trajectory in the javelin throw.

Welcome to SFU, Thomas!
