SFU Track & Field Signs Provincial Long Jump Champion Nathan Roth

7/8/2025 8:56:00 AM

BURNABY, B.C. – SFU Track & Field is proud to welcome Nathan Roth, a rising long jump talent from Port Coquitlam, B.C., and graduate of Terry Fox Secondary, to the 2025 recruiting class.

Roth's journey into the Red Leaf program began when he was still just finding his footing in the event. After initially jumping just under 6.50m, Roth caught the attention of the coaching staff, who saw his potential. He made steady improvements through the spring, eventually matching his best with a 6.49m jump in June. Then came a major breakthrough. At the BC High School Provincial Championships, held on the same day as his graduation, Roth soared to a lifetime best of 6.98m, securing the provincial title in spectacular fashion. It was a defining moment for the young athlete.

Roth joins SFU with high ambitions, aiming to continue his upward trajectory in the NCAA system. "I'm looking to improve my abilities enough to qualify for and win the NCAA Championships," he said. "At the same time, I'll be pursuing my degree in accounting. SFU is the only Canadian school that offers this level of NCAA competition, and the business program is one of the best in the country. It was an easy choice."

SFU jumps coach Jerrold Jones is excited to bring Roth onto the roster, "Nathan's progression has been remarkable. He's put in the work, trusted the process, and delivered when it mattered. I'm looking forward to helping him keep building on that momentum."

With a provincial title, personal best nearing 7 metres, and a focused mindset, Nathan Roth is set to make an impact.

Welcome to SFU, Nathan!
