Kim certified as an Athletic Therapist through the Canadian Athletic Therapists' Association in 2009 upon graduating from Sheridan College with a Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences (Athletic Therapy). She furthered her professional designations in 2010 by certifying as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and in 2021 completed the IOC's certificate in Sports Nutrition.
Prior to joining SFU in 2015, Kim started her career in private practice working with the general public in Victoria BC. In 2010 she worked as the interim therapist with the Cowichan Valley Capitals in the BCHL before moving to Whistler. In Whistler Kim worked as the lead gym supervisor at the Canadian Sport Institute-Pacific as well as the athletic therapist for Quest University's soccer and basketball teams. A career highlight for Kim is having the opportunity to travel with some of Canada's top freestyle skiers around the world including training camp in Argentina with the Canadian Men's Moguls Ski Team and Dew Tour with the Canadian Slopestyle Ski Team. |

Tanya completed a double undergraduate major from Queen's University in Life Science, Physical and Health Education, followed by an Athletic Therapy degree from Sheridan College. She is a Certified Athletic Therapist and a member of the Canadian Athletic Therapy Association since 2008.
Through Tanya's experiences with high performance athletes at the club, varsity, provincial and national levels she has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in injury assessment, rehabilitation and prevention of orthopaedic and sport related injuries. In her practice she includes a comprehensive approach to therapy and a particular expertise in preparing the athletes for safe and timely reintegration back into match play.
Prior to joining SFU in 2010, Tanya worked at a private sports medicine clinic in Toronto, ON. In addition to her work at SFU, Tanya has provided Athletic Therapy for numerous provincial and national events, including professional teams. Tanya has been selected as a member of the Canadian Medical teams at the 2009 Canada Summer Games in PEI, the 2013 FISU Games in Russia and the 2017 FISU Games in Taiwan.
Outside of work, Tanya enjoys spending time outdoors and can be found skiing, mountain biking, hiking, camping and travelling.

Taylor completed her Bachelor of Human Kinetics in 2014 at the University of British Columbia Okanagan and went on to complete her Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy at Mount Royal University where she worked with the University of Calgary Men's basketball and football teams. She became a Certified Athletic Therapist CAT(C), through the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association in 2016.
Taylor has experience working with varsity level athletes predominantly in contact sports such as football, basketball and soccer. In addition to working at SFU, Taylor has worked in private Sports Medicine and multidisciplinary clinics, assessing and treating a wide variety of individuals and injuries. She enjoys using a combination of treatment styles in her 'full body' approach practice, including manual therapy, taping and exercise rehabilitation.
Taylor enjoys spending her free time outdoors, hiking, camping, playing soccer and traveling.

Justin is a certified athletic therapist who graduated from York University in 2015 with a degree in Kinesiology and a certification in Athletic Therapy. Justin is also a Registered Massage therapist and has been working as one since 2017. Prior to joining SFU in 2018, Justin worked as an athletic therapist with Humber College Athletics and a variety of soccer clubs in Toronto.
Justin believes in tailoring his approach to fit the specific needs of his patients. He looks at the body as a whole and employs a variety of manual techniques including Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage, Soft Tissue Release and Cupping. Justin also promotes active recovery and prehabilitation with his patients to aid in their rehabilitation and to help with injury prevention. Justin also treats off campus as a Registered Massage Therapist.

Paul is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner® with a passion for working with athletes and at sporting events. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Victoria before moving to Portland, OR to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, a Master of Science in Sports and Exercise Science, and his Doctorate in Chiropractic at the University of Western States.
Paul believes in a whole-body approach to treatment and uses a variety of techniques (including Active Release Technique, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, functional movement screens, and others) to assess, treat and improve movement restrictions, adhesions and pain within the musculoskeletal system. Paul has enjoyed providing medical and chiropractic coverage at many sports events such as the Whistler Ironman, Fencing World Cup, BCSSRU Rugby Tournament, Women's World Softball Championship, and Americas Masters Games.

From her years as a captain of her varsity basketball team, to graduating with Honours from her BSc program in Kinesiology and again with Honours from the Chiropractic program at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.

Ian Dunsmir
BSc., R. Ac., C.SMA - Acupuncturist
Ian received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 1992 from Simon Fraser University and a Diploma of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in 1999. He is a Registered Acupuncturist and is certified in Sports Medicine Acupuncture. Ian was a teaching assistant in the School of Kinesiology for Kinesiology 241 from May 2000-April 2002.
As a Registered Acupuncturist, Ian has many years of experience working with athletes at all levels. He has worked with the Vancouver Ravens (lacrosse) from 2001-2004 and the Vancouver Stealth (lacrosse) from 2014 to 2018. Since 2010, Ian has been an acupuncturist for the BC Lions (Canadian Football League) providing sports medicine acupuncture treatments to the players. A highlight for his career was being named the VANOC (Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee) Manager for Acupuncture Services for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Ian began working at SFU Sports Medicine at the end of February 2023. He enjoys working with the student athletes and the collaborative environment of the clinic. He loves to share his passion for acupuncture and stays current with the changes as the Canadian Instructor for Sports Medicine Acupuncture seminars. Ian is passionate about helping people live an active and pain-free life by restoring muscle balance and joint function.

Kara Marshall
Registered Dietitian
Kara is a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and a member of Dietitians of Canada. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Food, Nutrition and Health with honours from the University of British Columbia in 2012, a Diploma in Sports Nutrition from the International Olympic Committee in 2014, and a Master of Science in Applied Nutrition with a focus on fitness and health from Northeastern University in 2017.
Kara works collaboratively with her clients to develop healthy, sustainable habits and achieve personal nutrition-related goals. She focuses applying evidence-based nutrition practices to help improve performance and optimize health.
Kara is also a Certified Diabetes Educator and holds her Food Safe Level One and Level Two certificates. She is a volunteer with the Dietitians of Canada Sports Nutrition Network and a member of the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association.
Outside of work Kara enjoys running, hiking, rock climbing, cooking ,and photography. She is also a regular volunteer with Sport Med BC's Sun Run In-Training program.
