Portland, OR – Simon Fraser University cross country runner Lindsey Butterworth (North Vancouver, BC) has been named the Red Lion Athlete of the Week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The senior finished third in the women's open division at the University of Washington Huskies Sundodger Invitational on Saturday.

She clocked in at 21:29.63 in the 6000-metre race.

Butterworth led the Clan to a second place finish at the event as SFU finished ahead of all other Division II schools competing, including one spot ahead of Chico State, who was ranked regionally in the pre-season poll.

Kirstin Allen (London, ON), Kansas Mackenzie (Vancouver, BC), Rebecca Bassett (Nanaimo, BC) and Tanya Humeniuk (Vancouver, BC) rounded out the top five Clan runners in the competition who contributed to the team's second place finish.

The Clan cross country teams will be back in action this Saturday at the Earl Anderson Invitational in Spokane, WA.
