BURNABY, BC --- Thursday night in the West Gym, the Simon Fraser University Women's Basketball Team dropped a contest with the visiting Central Washington University Wildcats by a final score of 83 to 74.
For Simon Fraser, the second quarter was ultimately what undid them in the contest, as they surrendered thirty points and scored just twelve in the frame. While SFU played solid basketball for most of the rest of the game, Central Washington's simple interior scoring approach helped pace them ahead of the home team, and at the half CWU was up 52 to 30.
Claudia Hart was SFU's top performer on the night, scoring 22 points and shooting 9 for 15 from the field, as well as 4 for 7 from three. For CWU, Samantha Bowman was unstoppable, as she put up 27 points on 11 for 12 shooting, while also adding 5 rebounds.
Simon Fraser topped the visitors by 4 points in the third quarter, and absolutely dominated in the final frame by a margin of 27 to 18, but at that point, it was too little too late for a Simon Fraser team that's still in the fight for a first round playoff bye in the upcoming GNAC tournament. The game finished with two quick successive threes from
Emma Kramer, but SFU would fall by a final score of 83 to 74.
SFU was out-rebounded 41 to 18 in the contest, although the home team did force 18 turnovers while committing just 8 themselves. Up next, Simon Fraser will take on Northwest Nazarene University on Saturday night (Senior Night) in the West Gym @ 7PM.
