6/10/2025 9:40:00 AM

Justina Di Stasio, Simon Fraser University alumnus and assistant wrestling coach, has been inducted into the North American Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame. The 2025 induectees were formally recognized during a ceremony and luncheon on June 7 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Di Stasio, a proud member of the Norway House Cree Nation through her mother Fiona Di Stasio (née Arthurson), has been part of Team Canada's women's wrestling program since 2011, competing internationally for over a decade.

Her athletic journey began at SFU, where she became a four-time All-American and three-time WCWA National Champion. She joined Canada's Senior World Team in 2015, earning silver at the Pan American Games that year. She claimed bronze at the 2017 Senior World Championships and became a Senior World Champion in 2018. Di Stasio continued her success with gold at the 2019 Pan Am Games.

After serving as Olympic alternate in 2016 and 2020, she paused during the pandemic to complete her teaching degree, then returned to the sport in 2021. She won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, triumphed at the 2023 Canadian Olympic Trials, and qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she competed and placed 12th.

Now working as an Indigenous Resource Teacher in the Burnaby School District, Di Stasio is preparing to balance her teaching career with training as she looks ahead to the 2025 wrestling season.
