Simon Fraser Falls to Dominating Alaska Anchorage

Anchorage, AK – Simon Fraser ran into a buzzsaw as they fell to powerhouse Alaska Anchorage 85-61. Alaska Anchorage continues to dominate at a mere single loss throughout the entire season at 16 – 1. Anchorage was strong and steady throughout the match, never holding back to ensure they were miles ahead Simon Fraser on the board ending the game 85 - 61.

Alaska Anchorage were not shy to start on the court opening the game with a 3 pointer, followed by a foul that gave Simon Fraser an opportunity on the free throw line. Simon Fraser fell behind with Anchorage gaining a 13-point advantage by the end of the first quarter.

Simon Fraser was able to gain some momentum in the second quarter with back to back layups from Ozioma Nwabuko and Jessica Jones. The team was able to come within 9 points of a tie before Anchorage kicked into high gear putting them nearly 20 points ahead of Simon Fraser.

Unfortunately, Simon Fraser was unable to keep Anchorage's pace that lead to a 24-point difference. The game ended at a final score of 85 – 61.

Overall, Simon Fraser team was able to hit 11 out of their 16 free throw opportunities, a 72% clip. Anchorage produced a similar result hitting 13 out of their 18 opportunities (71.4%).

Jessica Jones was a beast on the court putting up 23 points. Jones also grabbed 3 rebounds and 1 steal. Kendal Sands held a steady performance with 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. Sands contributed 14 points to the board in her 20 minutes of court time.

For Simon Fraser the next few games are their most important as the season winds down and GNAC playoffs begin.  Currently SFU is ranked 4th in the GNAC. 

Up Next, Simon Fraser will finish off their time in Alaska on February 22 when they play the University of Alaska in Fairbanks at 3:00PM.
