Simon Fraser University Athletics

Brit Townsend was an NAIA 800-metre champion (1986) representing Simon Fraser during her collegiate career and held the NAIA 800-metre record until 2011.

Townsend had an extensive post-university career that includes earning a Pan-American Games bronze medal, and World Indoor Championship silver medal. She represented Canada at the 1984 Olympic Games.

After completing her competitive career, she returned to SFU as head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams. Townsend has continued to make SFU the destination of choice for Canada's elite middle distance runners.
