The 1982 SFU men’s soccer team, coached by Keith Watts, went 18-3-3 in their impressive season, winning the first of back-to-back National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championships. SFU beat Midwestern State (Texas) 4-0 in Wichita Falls, Texas for the national title.

The 1982 team was a high-scoring and entertaining side, led by Jean-George Balla, who scored 25 goals, the second highest goal-scoring season in history. Alfonso Napoletano scored 13 times, and Daryl Larson notched 11 goals that year. The midfield generals and ball distributors were senior Ross Stewart, who registered a then-school record 13 assists, and Murray Muskeyn. Goalkeeper Jerry Vick was in net for all 18 victories. The team conceded just 11 goals all season long and Vick posted a school-record 15 shutouts.

The following season, 1983, SFU won again, beating Midwestern State 1-0 in the championship final.
