Sheila Strike was a star forward for SFU in the early 1970s while also competing for the Canadian national team. Sheila was the starting centre for Canada at the 1976 Summer Olympics, the first year women’s basketball was an Olympic sport. She averaged eight points and 5.6 rebounds in five games. 
 
After playing at SFU, Sheila transferred to Laurentian University for her final collegiate season where she led the Lady Vees to its first-ever CIS national championship. She was recognized as an All-Canadian. 
 
After her playing career Sheila coached at the University of Oregon and the University of Nevada: Las Vegas. She later became involved in education and sport development and has been inducted into four Hall of Fames for her work as an athlete, coach and sports administrator.
