Sarah Howell is one of the most decorated track and field athletes in Simon Fraser University history. She won 10 individual national titles which in 1992 was more than any other female athlete in NAIA history.

From 1990 to 1992, Howell won three consecutive national titles in the 1,500- and 3,000-metres at the outdoor championships and three straight titles in the indoor mile. She also won the cross country championship in 1990.

In 1992, Howell went undefeated against collegiate competition and set NAIA records in both the 1,500 and 3,000-metres at her final outdoor championship. She also anchored six winning relay teams and led SFU to the 1990 and 1992 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Howell represented Canada internationally, winning medals at both the World Student Games and the Pan American Games.
