Stan Stewardson served as head coach of the SFU men’s basketball program for nine seasons from 1975-79, and again from 1984-89. During the 1986-87 season his team won 24 games, which as of his induction in 2014 was the most in SFU history.

He coached 11 Canadian national team players, and 16 professional basketball players. Some of his most notable athletes were NBA and Olympic coach Jay Triano and Canadian hero Terry Fox who are both members of the SFU Athletics Hall of Fame.

He is also a recipient of the Metro Vancouver Basketball Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and is a Basketball BC, Burnaby Sport and Delta Sport Hall of Fame honouree.
