Michelle Hendry (1988-1992) achieved great success as a member of the SFU women’s basketball team after coming to the university from Terrace as part of legendary coach Allison McNeill's first recruiting class. Hendry was a two-time NAIA Player of the Year and a three-time All-American.

Twice, she led SFU to the Eilte Eight at the NAIA Championships. She graduated as SFU's all-time scoring leader with 3,152 points and her No. 24 jersey was officially retired.

After SFU, Hendry competed in the 2000 Olympic Games as a member of the Canadian women’s basketball team and she had a professional basketball career in Europe. In 2009, she was inducted into the Basketball BC Hall of Fame.
