The 2001-02 SFU women’s basketball team was one of the most dominant in the history of Canadian university women's basketball. Bruce Langford replaced legendary SFU coach Allison McNeill, who left an experienced and talented core of players, and in his first year he guided the Clan to a 35-0 undefeated season and first national championship in program history.

SFU def
eated Laval, 66-51, in the CIS championship game. Forward Jessica Kaczowka scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and guard Teresa Kleindienst was named MVP after a 12-point, seven assist performance.

During the year SFU outscored its opponents by a 28-point margin and four players – Kaczowka, Kleindienst, Jen Van De Walle and Gaby Salazar – averaged double figures in scoring.

Langford was CIS Coach of the Year and Kaczowka was CIS Player of the Year. SFU was named Basketball BC and Sport BC Team of the Year and was inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame.
