Jim Jardine was a charter member of the SFU football team. The Clan’s founding Athletic Director and first head football coach Lorne Davies recruited him to be the program’s first starting quaterback. He was switched to corner back after his freshman season. He became one of the leaders of the team’s defence throughout the rest of his career on Burnaby Mountain. After graduation Jardine became a lawyer and was appointed a judge of the provincial court in 1997.
